Jada Smith and Tupac had a close friendship - or was it something more?
DLNews Entertainment:
The marriage to actor Will Smith (55) is history, but Jada Pinkett Smith's (52) soul mate was also someone else. At least that’s what the 52-year-old now claims in an interview with “RollingOut.” And none other than rap god Tupac Shakur (†25).
Jada Smith and Tupac Shakur were inseparable in their youth. Like here in 1996.
“If there is such a thing as past lives, I think that Pac and I went through some together,” says Jada about the rapper, who was murdered in 1996 and whom she met when they were teenagers when they both lived in Baltimore, Maryland. Tupac was her “soul mate”.
Huh. Almost like a cheesy Hollywood film. But according to Jada Smith, it wasn't enough for love. Despite the great kinship. “It’s a friends-love chemistry,” says Will Smith’s (still) wife. What exactly does that mean? “It was almost as if God created us this way. It was like, look, I'm going to get you two together, okay? You become a dynamic duo. But I'm telling you now that I'm going to do it all so that you don't get together because it's just not the point," she continues.
And Tupac is also said to have seen things differently - at least according to Jada. In the “All The Smoke” podcast, the actress says something else: Tupac proposed to her while he was in prison in 1995.
“I knew then that he needed someone to spend time with him, which I would have done anyway. He didn't have to marry me for that. I am here. He needed a rock.” Jada is sure that Tupac would have gone through with the wedding. But also an immediate divorce as soon as he was released from prison.
Exciting: Until 1995, Tupac was still with pop queen Madonna (65). She confirmed this on the “Howard Stern Show” in 2015. By the way, he was convicted of sexual harassment.
Almost Married? According to Jada Smith, Tupac proposed to her in prison.
In 1997, Jada married Will Smith, whom she met and fell in love with three years earlier while filming the hit series “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.” Since then, the couple has continued to cause a stir. Because their relationship was anything but ordinary, he was also jealous of the most famous rapper in the world.
In Will Smith's autobiography “Will,” published in 2021, the actor writes: “Our marriage didn't work. We both felt unhappy, and something had to change.” SHE never believed in a conventional marriage, which led to lengthy discussions. “Marriage should not be a prison for us. And I don’t recommend our path to anyone.”
Will Smith and Jada's marriage officially lasted over two decades. Even if SHE now claims to have failed seven years ago.
Divorce? That's out of the question for Jada at first. At least not for now. According to the Daily Mail, maybe in ten years. Jada is ultimately confident about almost nothing about her marriage to Will.
Tupac Shakur would be 52 years old today - the same age as Jada Smith. But fate had other plans. On September 8, 1996, shots were fired at the black BMW where the young rapper was sitting in Las Vegas. Tupac was hit several times and died in the hospital a few days later from his injuries.
The rapper was only 25 years old.
