DLNews Crime:
AGAIN A KILLING ON US UNIVERSITY CAMPUS
'Police saw no threat.'
At the University of Virginia, Christopher Darnell Jones murdered three former teammates. The beefy footballer was on the run for several hours after the murder and has since been caught. Now it came out: the police had not noticed a tip about three months ago as a threat.
What happened?
On Sunday, D'Sean Perry, Lavel Davis Jr., and Devin Chandler returned from a theatrical performance with a busload of other students. Jones ambushed the group and executed the victims on campus. The police found two bodies on the bus, and the third person was pronounced dead at the hospital. Two other people were injured, also members of the Cavaliers football team.
Funeral service for the victims: Many in attendance wore Cavaliers football team clothing.
Tragic: the authorities could have prevented the bloody deed. Because the university was informed in September of this year that the later gunman was illegally in possession of a weapon.
Tim Longo from the university police said at a press conference that the report had been investigated. However, those responsible apparently did not see any threat in this. A mistake that three young people now had to pay with their lives.
Christopher Darnell Jones is now in custody. He will face charges of triple murder. The US state of Virginia abolished the death penalty in March last year.
And Four more dead students in Idaho.
In the state of Idaho, meanwhile, four students - three women and one man - were found dead in a house near a university. The police believe they were murdered. Police said the investigation is still in its infancy. The New York Times quotes an official saying it was a "crime of passion."
Deadly shooting sprees with firearms occur again and again at universities and schools in the USA. In the deadliest attack of its kind, Cho Seung-hui shot and killed 32 people at Virginia Tech in 2007 before taking his own life.
