Ex-president allegedly paid porn star hush money.

Former U.S. President Donald Trump (76) will be indicted. It is the first time in the history of the United States that a president must answer the court.

Daniels and Trump met several times after that. Then, in 2007, she claimed to have slept with him a second time - but the alleged promise was never kept. Instead, the frustrated porn star sold her story to a U.S. magazine four years later. But because Trump's lawyer, Michael Cohen, threatened legal action, the article was never published.

It wasn't until 2016, at the height of the presidential campaign, that rumors about the affair boiled up again. In October - a few weeks before the election - a video went public in which Trump bragged that he could grab any woman between the legs because he was famous. Stormy Daniels an excellent opportunity to address journalists again.

Michael Cohen was supposed to use the hush money payment to prevent Trump's candidacy from being damaged in the crucial weeks before the election because of the alleged affair. Instead, the former lawyer was repaid the money by Donald Trump's company.

The problem: The hush money was an illegal campaign contribution. Cohen was therefore sentenced in 2018 to three years in prison and a fine of $50,000. The New York Supreme Court also disbarred him.

The ex-president admitted having paid the hush money but denied an affair with Stormy Daniels. Donald Trump had stated in advance that he expected to be arrested on March 21. He had called for the day his supporters to protest.

On Tuesday, it could be the day. Then Trumps wants to appear, according to his lawyer Susan R. Necheles at the Supreme Court of New York for the arraignment.

"We have contacted Mr. Trump's attorneys this evening so that his transfer to the Manhattan DA's office can be coordinated," the prosecutor in charge of the case, Alvin Bragg, announced on Twitter.

Donald Trump called the indictment a "witch hunt." "This is political persecution and election interference at the highest level in history," the former president claimed in a statement released Friday night.
