DLNews Entertainment:
Ladies and gentlemen, mark your calendars and prepare for an evening of wine, wit, and wild women. Desert TheatreWorks brings the hilariously heartwarming comedy "The Wild Women of Winedale" to the Indio Performing Arts Center. Running from October 18 to November 3, 2024, this production promises to be the toast of the town—and not just because the characters might enjoy a glass (or three) of Chardonnay!
Written by the dynamic trio of Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope, and Jamie Wooten, "The Wild Women of Winedale" offers a rollicking ride through the lives of three spirited Texas women. Think Steel Magnolias with a twist of lime and a side of laughter. The story celebrates friendship, resilience, and personal growth only from realizing you can fit into those old jeans—if you don’t mind not breathing.
Artistic Director Lance Phillips couldn’t be more excited about the show, noting, "This exuberant comedy is a heartfelt exploration of relationships and personal growth. With an all-female cast, the production highlights the complexities of sisterhood, friendship, and the journey to self-discovery. We believe audiences will connect deeply with these characters and leave the theater feeling uplifted and inspired by their stories." And if you don’t leave uplifted, it’s likely because you’re still laughing from Act One.
Hal O'Connell directs the production and boasts a powerhouse ensemble of local talent. Alexana Thomas leads the charge as Willa Wild, while Lee Rice takes on the role of Johnnie Faye (Jef) Wild. Daniela Ryan juggles multiple roles as Betty, Glenda, and Nora, proving that multitasking isn’t just for the workplace. Jannae Kleban plays Fanny Wild Cantrelle, and Shirley LeMaster rounds out the cast in the chameleon-like roles of Doreen, Flo, and Edith.
Performances will occur at the Indio Performing Arts Center, located at 45175 Fargo Street in Indio, California—a venue becoming as much a staple in the community as a good guacamole recipe. Showtimes are Thursday through Saturday at 7:30 p.m., with Sunday matinees at 2:00 p.m., giving you plenty of opportunities to catch the show (and maybe even see it twice). The play runs for two hours, with a 15-minute intermission—just enough time to discuss Act One over a glass of wine from the lobby bar.
Tickets are priced at $44, a bargain considering the joy and laughter packed into each performance. You can snag your seats online at dtworks.org or drop by the box office at the Indio Performing Arts Center. Trust us; you don’t want to miss this Texas-sized comedy that’s sure to be the talk of the town—and who knows, you might even pick up a few new life lessons along the way, like how to make a margarita in under a minute.
So, whether you’re a Wild Woman or need a good laugh, come down to the Indio Performing Arts Center and join Desert TheatreWorks for a night of theater you will never forget. After all, these wild women aren’t just raising glasses—they’re raising the roof!
