Ho Ho Ho! Inaugural “Santa Paws” fun run/walk/stroll set for December 22

A 5k run/walk/stroll to benefit Guide Dogs of the Desert promises to be a holiday tradition-in-the-making – and the sight of hundreds of Santas and elves dashing through the streets of Palm Springs should raise a smile even on Scrooge’s face.

On Saturday morning December 22 2012 the Whitewater Guide Dogs of the Desert Lions Club and the Palm Springs Marathon Runners will host a 5K walk/run/stroll at the Mizell Senior Center, 480 Sunrise Way (corner Ramon Road); the event is a benefit for Palm Springs-based Guide Dogs of the Desert.

The $30 entry fee ($35 day of event) covers race costs as well as a complete Santa Claus costume, including beard; children receive an elf shirt and hat. Milk and cookies will be served at the finish line, and all registered participants will receive a goodie bag (whether they were naughty or nice) filled with special treats.

Entries are limited to 500 for the inaugural event, and participants should register at www.active.comFor more information, contact Molly Thorpe at (760) 413-6508.

“What a sight to see,” notes Kim Laidlaw, Executive Director of Guide Dogs of the Desert, adding “…and the proceeds will benefit our program that brings increased freedom to the blind. This is a great opportunity to exercise, support a good cause and release some of that holiday tension!”

Dogs are welcome at the event and entry fees will be waived for dogs; however, all dogs must be current with vaccinations and remain on a short leash at all times.
